Overview

ShelfScan AI is a 6 cm cube camera with an edge AI processor that monitors shelves continuously. It detects out-of-stock and low-stock items, checks planogram compliance, spots misplaced products and wrong price tags, and monitors freshness — alerting staff with real-time insights.

  • Out-of-stock and low-stock detection per product facing
  • Planogram compliance and price-tag verification
  • 6 × 6 × 3 cm cube, 4K 120° camera, shelf or ceiling mount
  • Also runs on existing CCTV over RTSP

The problem

Out-of-stocks cost retailers sales every day, yet most stores still rely on manual shelf walks a few times per shift. Planogram compliance is hard to verify across hundreds of stores, misplaced items and wrong price tags frustrate shoppers, and fresh produce quality is checked by eye. Head office has little real-time visibility.

Use cases

Out-of-stock alerts

Detect empty and low facings and alert staff to replenish before sales are lost.

Planogram compliance

Compare shelves with the planogram and flag gaps, wrong positions and missing facings.

Price-tag checks

Read shelf-edge labels and flag missing or mismatched price tags.

Misplaced items

Detect products left in the wrong location by shoppers.

Freshness monitoring

Monitor produce and bakery displays for depletion and visible quality issues.

Pharmacy and convenience

Monitor high-value and fast-moving categories in pharmacies, convenience stores and fuel-station shops.

How it works

  1. 1

    Capture

ShelfScan cubes or existing cameras capture shelf images at configurable intervals.

  2. 2

    Recognise

On-device models detect each product facing and recognise SKUs and shelf labels.

  3. 3

    Compare

Shelf state is compared with the planogram and stock expectations.

  4. 4

    Alert

Staff get prioritised tasks — refill, fix facing, correct price — on the store app.

  5. 5

    Report

Head office sees compliance and availability across every store in the dashboard.

ShelfScan AI FAQ

General FAQ
Do I have to pay to join the 2027 Pilot Program?

No. Applying is free and carries no obligation. If you want to hold a pilot slot, you can place an optional $49 deposit. It is fully refundable any time before shipment — email hello@iemilabs.com or use the refund link in your confirmation email — and it is credited in full against your purchase if you go ahead.

Is my data processed on the device?

Yes. Shelf images are analysed on the device and discarded by default; only shelf-state results are sent to the dashboard. Cameras face shelves, and any shoppers in frame are automatically blurred if images are retained.

How do you learn our products?

During onboarding we build a product catalogue from your product images and planograms. New SKUs can be added from a few photos in the dashboard.

Do I need a camera on every shelf?

No. One cube typically covers about three metres of shelving. Many stores start with high-value or fast-moving categories and expand from there.

How is it installed and connected?

Cubes clip to the shelf edge opposite, or mount on the ceiling, and connect by PoE or Wi-Fi 6. Existing cameras are added by RTSP.

Is ShelfScan AI available now?

ShelfScan AI is in development. Specifications shown are target specifications and may change as we complete engineering validation. We are targeting a Q2 2027 ship window and will email reservation holders with every major milestone.

What warranty will it come with?

We are planning a 2-year limited hardware warranty covering manufacturing defects, with advance replacement for pilot and business customers. Final warranty terms will be published before shipping begins.
